Day 21: Timeless Photographs Of Children
For my Day 21 shot for the 30 Day Photo Challenge, I had great plans of taking a beautiful photograph outdoors to welcome Spring. Alas, it was raining most of today here. And although I braved the rain yesterday for my photo, I didn’t feel like doing it again. So that brought me to this evening with still no photo to show.
My daughter is in a total dress-up stage, so I decided some tutu shots with her teddy bear were just going to have to do tonight. I messed around with selective coloring and different levels of desaturation with this image in Photoshop to give it some flair. But ultimately I decided on black and white to make it stand out and give it a wonderfully timeless feel.
Since I was indoors and had to use flash, the background was nearly lost. After I adjusted the levels of shadow, I was able to rid the photo of the background clutter entirely. I then added a black border to the image and viola! Was this photo taken tonight in my living room or sometime back in 1960? That’s what I love about black and white images of children!

Amy- Thanks so much for your blog. I am a very novice cameraperson, but I find your ideas very inspiring!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Anne - Thank YOU! I write this blog for people exactly like you (well, and like me, for that matter). I started out last year not knowing very much about photography — just knowing I loved doing it. I’ve messed up, tried new things and learned tons along the way. But mostly I just keep doing it. That’s the best advice I ever got (and will ever give).
Glad I can share it with you.
