Dogs and kids steal the show
The Daughter and I got to hang out yesterday with my friend, her new baby and her dog. And since all I’ve been shooting lately is babies (not that that’s a bad thing!), I decided to corner my friend’s gorgeous dog, Jade, for a few close-up shots. It’s true what they say: animals and babies do steal the show. Jade wasn’t too happy at first, but then she realized she was getting a lot of attention out of it, and also a few french fries to keep her in place. Check out a few more from the doggy photo shoot here.
This shot was taken for the new Photo A Day Challenge. Be sure to check out our Photo A Day page for other daily shots. Continue reading for more details on the shot.
I took this photo in the early afternoon light with no flash and with just a little zoom. When I zoomed too close, even with the macro setting on my camera, things just got too blurry. I have to play with and learn my features a little more. I love how you know there’s another eyeball up in that right corner, but you can’t really see it.
Thanks, Jade! You were a great model.

Cool shot & beautiful dog. no fair using dogs and kids for the “awww” factor!

But Jim - we need as much “awwww” as we can get!
I’m actually sort of surprised that the macro worked so well. On my Olympus I could pull off this trick pretty well, but on the Canon I’ve not been able to master it.

[...] Another busy day, another quickie-picture. At least the sun was out so John won’t whine about us not going out in the rain. Since I didn’t have any babies or dogs to shoot, and plants seem to be an easy target, I looked around for a quick subject. I spied the plant my wife had placed in front of the window with the obscure-glass. The sun was shining from behind it and gave it a nice warm glow. [...]
